Jonathon "Wardi" Ward is a StarCraft II caster and tournament organizer from the UK.

Biography[edit]

Wardi first played StarCraft in the Summer of 2011 after purchasing the game to play Tower Defense with World of Warcraft guild mates. After learning about the competitive aspect of StarCraft 2 multiplayer he quickly became absorbed by the game and pushed to improve. While at University he had a small group of practice partners, which eventually became the basis of the in-game channel "sc2improve" - a chat designed for players from Bronze to Diamond to find practice partners and improve. The chat quickly became very popular (and still is to this day one of the most active Battle Net channels on StarCraft 2) and became a basis for Wardi's work in the StarCraft 2 scene.

Wardi began organizing tournaments with the SC2Improve Weekly events in 2011 - a $5 weekly tournament initially limited to Diamond and below players until the 20th event which was open to players of all leagues. Wardi began to run much larger events in the Summer of 2012, with the SC2Improve Summer and Winter Leagues in 2012[1], small amateur leagues with a £59 prize pool for the Winter edition. These events continued to grow in terms of prize pool and notability of players, until the final individual event in 2014, the SC2Improve Summer League 2014 which with a €500 Prize Pool was won by Kas.

Wardi moved into Team League events in late 2013 after a disagreement with an admin in another league, prompting him to run his own team league event. The SC2Improve Team League was born and was became the most notable event under the SC2Improve banner. The event ran for 6 seasons and was won by notable teams such as Team Liquid, mYinsanity, StarTale and others. By its final season in 2016 the SC2ITL had grown to boast a €2000+ prize pool and featured the highest level of competition outside of Korea with teams like Team Liquid, Millenium and ROOT Gaming participating[2].

In fall of 2016 Wardi announced that SC2Improve would be disbanded and tournament operations would continue under the WardiTV brand [3]. His team league would be renamed the WardiTV Team League and announced plans to begin hosting individual tournaments more frequently under the name WardiTV Open.

As a Player[edit]

Wardi is primarily a Terran player, but has reached Masters with all three races during both Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void. He has participated as a player in multiple UK LAN events as well as a few international events, most notably reaching the RO64 at DreamHack Leipzig 2016.
