[edit] Biography

Known as RainBOw in StarCraft: Brood War, he was regarded as one of the most influential players in the community who did not win one of the major tournaments. In Brood War he played Protoss, and his Reaver play became the standard for effective use of that unit.

In September 2009, Sung Je retired from e-sports, but has since returned.

June 6, it was announced that RainBOw would fulfill his military service on June 26.[1]

[edit] In Beta

In the StarCraft II beta, IntoTheRainbow switched to Terran as his primary race. He joined the new pro-house oGs., along with fellow South Koreans Tester, Cool, and Zenio.

He gained prominence outside of Korea after receiving an invitation to Day9s King of the Beta, along with teammate Tester. In that tournament, he displayed great crisis management[2] and relentlessly aggressive play.

[edit] Wings of Liberty

Rainbow qualified for the first GSL straight away, under the ID HopeTorture. Rainbow stormed through the tournament, dominating his semifinal opponent Ensnare before taking on Cool in the Best of 7 finals. Rainbow put in a good effort, but his harassment wasn't up to his usual standard and was held off by Cool with ease in each game. Rainbow won a great comeback game in Game 4, but ultimately lost 1-4 to the Zerg.

In late September 2010, he was announced to be joining the new team StarTale with the former stars Silent Control and July.

Rainbow qualified for GSL Season 2 under the handle HopeTorture. He eventually became the only player to progress to the Round of 8 in both open seasons. Rainbow would lose in the semifinals to MarineKing, who was using the handle BoxeR at the time.

In GSL Season 3, Rainbow used the handle RainbOw instead of HopeTorture. Here he was knocked out in the Ro64 by Zerg player, NewDawn, somewhat of an upset considering how well Rainbow did in the previous two GSLs. Despite the loss, upon completion of the 3 open seasons, RainBOw would be the highest ranked S-Class Terran seed for the upcoming 2011 tournaments.

StarTale would compete in the Zotac Team Invitational/Season 2 for the duration of January 2011. Although Rainbow would not be used for the bulk of play due to his GSL commitments, he would be chosen to be the first player for StarTale in the finals against ZeNEX. Rainbow would take out ON and Puzzle, while his teammate Bomber would finish off CoCa and ByuN to take the series 4-1.

[edit] Code S

In the 2011 January GSL, Rainbow comfortably advanced through the Round of 32 by defeating LeenockfOu and anyproPrime.WE, securing his continued Code S status. He would be knocked out with losses to MarineKingPrime.WE and oGsMC in the following round. In the March season, Rainbow would finish last in his group stage but was able to hold off BanBans to retain Code S. During GSL May, Rainbow would be defeated by every single player in his group stage, leaving with an 0-3. He would get beaten in the up/down matches by Rain, also without taking a single victory.

[edit] Code A

RainBOw completed his decline in GSL July, where he debuted in Code A and was ousted by Leenock 0-2. After failing to qualify for subsequent GSL events, he qualified for GSL November. In the Round of 48, RainBOw would face off teammate Bomber ultimately losing 1-2 and being knocked out of the tournament. In the 2012 GSL Season 1 Code A preliminaries, RainBOw would narrowly miss qualifying, losing to Seal in the finals.

[edit] Online tournaments outside Korea

RainBOw was one of the 50 players invited to participate in the North American Starleague. He was placed into Division 1, where he ended up with 3 wins and 6 losses.

During fall 2011 RainBOw has frequently been participating in the Playhem Dailies on both the NA and EU server. He is as of 20 March 2012 placed third in the Medal Count with no less than 15 victories and many silver and bronze medals.

[edit] Trivia

  • Is often seen as rivals with Check, facing off against him 6 times in GOMTV televised matches with a current 5-1 record.
  • Fiance of Aphrodite, who is also a StarCraft II player for StarTale.
