[edit] Biography
As a Brood War professional, Mvp appeared in Proleague for Woongjin Stars and qualified for several Starleagues in 2010. His most notable individual accomplishment was reaching the Round of 8 of the 2010 Hana Daetoo Securities MSL, in which he met Flash and won a set through amazing macro and battlecruiser management.[1]. Shortly after the 2009-2010 Shinhan Bank Proleague ended, he switched to StarCraft 2.
[edit] Style
Known for his deadly timing attacks, MVP is solid all-around in all of his match ups, with vs Zerg being his best. He is famous for his overwhelmingly strong macro management in the middle to late game. He is also well known for having some of the best marine control amongst progamers, and for his heavy battlecruiser play in TvT matchups. Mvp himself is credited to have created "late game mass ghost management" which is able to deal with every Zerg's high tech units in late game. It was only in some of progamers' conception but Mvp realized it in a real televised match first ever among progaming history. (GSL August semi-finals vs July game 2)

[edit] 2010
As part of the team Incredible Miracle, Mvp participated in the second Global Starcraft 2 League, losing to Zenio 1-2 in the Round of 32. Although he was eliminated by Choya 0-2 in the Round of 16 of the third GSL, his efforts were enough to secure him S-Class status for the 2011 GSL January Tournament.
During the post-season, before the GSL 2011 tournaments were underway, Mvp took part as one of the Terran players for Gisado's Challenge, which featured a King of the Hill style between the three races. Against the Zerg race, Mvp defeated the complete 5-member roster comprised of FruitDealer, IdrA, Zenio, Leenock and NesTea, winning every match but one 2-0.[2] Mvp also competed in the Gainward SC2 Tournament which started with 768 participants. As he was not one of the 8 seeded players, he played the entirety of the tournament, eventually reaching the Round of 32 where he overcame players such as NesTea, NaDa, and TheStC. He took first place, defeating nearly all of his opponents with a clean record; the exception was MarineKing, who took a single set off of him in the semi-finals.
[edit] 2011
Mvp's dominance continued in the 2011 GSL January Tournament, where he did not drop a single set until the semi-finals against his teammate NesTea, whom he defeated 3-1. Along the way, he secured convincing wins against notable players such as Zenio, FruitDealer, and TricKsteR; Mvp described these series in his pre-finals interview as easy, only acknowledging NesTea as a difficult match.[3] Meeting with MarineKing in the finals, Mvp completed his strong run by demonstrating a nearly flawless understanding of MarineKing's playstyle and sweeping his opponent 4-0, leaving no chance of a comeback throughout the series. Mvp ended the tournament with an amazing 16-1 record and became the first Terran champion of the GSL.
Mvp played twice for Incredible Miracle to help them win the first ever GSTL. He fended off a dark templar rush by the ace player of oGs (MC) and came back from a large supply deficit against Bomber of the team Startale. During the March Code S Tournament, Mvp took out Hyperdub but was defeated by July twice in a row, bringing his group score to 1-2 and knocking him out of the tournament in the first round; the early elimination was viewed by many as an upset. In the March Up & Down Matches Mvp was knocked down to Code A after losing to Alicia and Genius.
Despite falling out of Code S, Mvp climbed to the top of the 2011 GSL World Championship, defeating HuK, July and San before securing the title 4-2 against MarineKing.
In the 2011 GSL May Code A Tournament Mvp placed second, losing 2-4 to Bomber. As runner-up he earned the privilege to choose his opponents in the May Up and Down Matches; he chose two Terran players, Rain and RainBOw, and defeated Rain 2-0, thus rising up to Code S once again.
Based on his previous performances, Mvp was seeded highly for the 2011 GSL Super Tournament. He would be ousted at the Round of 32 to GanZi with a score of 1-2.
During the July Code S Tournament's group stage, Mvp won against sC but lost to Zenio and Byun. With a group score of 1-2 Mvp was eliminated from the tournament, but would stay in Code S for the next GSL.
In the August Code S Tournament, Mvp cleared the group stage 2-0 by defeating MC and Polt. He would continue his run by defeating NesTea 2-0 in the Round of 16, beating HuK 3-0 in the Round of 8 and defeating July 3-1 in the semi finals. In the finals, he faced off against TOP and defeated him 4-1 to win his third GSL title. Despite having such strong opponents Mvp achieved a 14-2 record and became the second three time GSL champion and first three time Terran champion of the GSL. Artosis has said many times that Mvp had the hardest road to a GSL final ever (up to this point) since every single opponent he was required to face was either a GSL champion, a champion of a foreign tournament, or a legendary StarCraft: Brood War Golden Mouse owner. [4].
In GSL October, Mvp would place first in his group, 2-0, by beating Ensnare and Clide. He would go to eliminate a number of very strong opponents, including Bomber (2-0), his teammate NesTea (3-2) and GanZi (3-1). After making it into the finals, Mvp went to BlizzCon 2011 to face off against the other finalist, MMA. In some very tense games in front of the largest GSL audience so far, Mvp ended up losing 1-4.
In GSL November, Mvp was initially placed in Group H with aLive, MarineKing and Curious. He beat MarineKing and aLive to advance. Then, in the Round of 16, he was placed in Group D with two other Terrans, GuMiho and Jjakji, as well as one Zerg: CoCa. He advanced 2-0 out of his group, beating GuMiho and Jjakji. In the Round of 8, he faced off against sC, defeating him 3-0 and moving onto the semi-finals against Leenock. Although he was undefeated up to this point, he fell to Leenock 2-3.
Mvp participated in the World Cyber Games 2011 after winning the Korean Qualifiers. He placed first in his group with a score of 6-0 after beating notable players such as GoOdy and Cytoplasm and then moved on to face the Chinese player MacSed in the first round. Defeating him, Mvp defeated BlinG and Kas to secure a spot in the finals against XiGua, where he would win 2-0, securing first in the tournament.
After qualifying for the Blizzard Cup in three different ways through being the top ranked player in the GSL Player Rankings, winning Blizzcon 2011 and winning World Cyber Games 2011, Mvp ended up second in his group, losing only to DongRaeGu. Next, he beat Polt in the following round with a score of 3-1. However, Mvp would then fall to his Terran rival MMA in the semifinals with a score of 0-3.
[edit] 2012
In the 2012 GSL Season 1 Code S Round of 32 Mvp was seeded into Group C against IdrA, Lucky, and NesTea. He defeated Lucky 2-0, but lost to NesTea in a 2-1 series. In the final game to decide whether Mvp would advance or not, he used Ghosts and Nukes effectively to allow him to advance onto the Round of 16. In the round of 16, he would be placed with GuMiho, Curious, and aLive. He lost to GuMiho in the first series of the group 2-0, then later beating Curious 2-0, but lost to GuMiho once again 2-1 in the last series of the group. He faced Sniper in Code A RO24 and defeated him 2-1, securing Code S again.
After qualifying for Code S for 2012 GSL Season 2, Mvp was seeded into Group G, along with NaNiwa, Ryung, and Puzzle. His wrist injury still plaguing him, Mvp initially lost 0-2 against Ryung in a series that made him look like a shell of his former self. Mvp then had to play Puzzle, and managed to defeat him 2-0 while looking quite strong in the process. In the last series of the night, Mvp had to play against Ryung again. Mvp revealed a hidden viking fleet and battlecruisers to dismantle Ryung's mechanical army to take the first game, while his experience in base trades allowed him to end up with a stronger army and running economy, taking the series 2-0 and qualifying for GSL Code S Round of 32. Mvp was seeded in Group B with HerO, July, and Leenock. He emerged victorious against July 2-1, holding July's trademark aggression, but lost 1-2 against HerO and had to face Leenock. In a series reminiscent of Mvp's skill before his handicap, he defeated Leenock 2-1 and advanced to the Round of 8, where he would meet NaNiwa. Mvp would beat him 3-1, relying on various strategies, notably two early game strategies to punish NaNiwa's "risky early game".[5] He was the last non-Protoss player in the Round of 4 and faced PartinG, considered by many to be the best PvT player in the world. Mvp would end up winning the series 3-1 after choosing to use a strategic 2-base SCV pull in game 1 to punish a Colossus into Storm tech switch, following up with a non-cloak variation of the infamous 1-1-1 all-in in game 2, and a 4-medivac drop in the final game. Mvp faced Squirtle in his fifth finals appearance, defeating him in a thrilling 4-3 series where Mvp took the first three maps but Squirtle brought the series to even after game six.
[edit] Outside Korea
Mvp's first major tournament outside of Korea was the SAGAcity Invitational 2011, where he beat LosirA in the semifinals 3-2 and Luvsic in the finals 4-0 to secure a first place finish.
It was announced on July 11, 2011 that Mvp would be going to MLG Anaheim as part of the GSL-MLG Exchange Program.[6] There, he placed first in his pool, going 5-0. He beat GanZi 2-1, KiWiKaKi 2-1, Machine 2-0, SeleCT 2-0, and mOoNan 2-0. In the Championship Bracket, he beat DongRaeGu 2-1 and BoxeR 2-0, securing his spot in the finals of the winner's bracket. He ended up beating MMA 2-1 in the first best of three in the finals, claiming first place with an impressive 16-4 record. Since he placed first at Anaheim, he was invited to MLG Raleigh as the defending champion for a shot to defend his title.[7] However, he chose not to go since he was still in the running for GSL August, deciding to focus on that tournament instead.[8]
On August 17th, it was announced that Mvp and his teammate NesTea had been invited to BlizzCon 2011 due to their success in the GSL.[9] Only a day before the event, it was made public that Steel Series would personally sponsor both players.[10] At BlizzCon, Mvp took out mOOnGLaDe 2-0, TooDming 2-1, and SeleCT 2-1 to get into the winner's bracket finals, where he lost 0-2 to his teammate NesTea. Undeterred, he went on to take out Sen in the lower bracket finals in order to secure a lot in the finals for another chance to take out his teammate and rival. Mvp managed to win the first best of three easily with a score of 2-0, and then went on to win the second best of three 2-1 after a very long and epic final game on Shakuras Plateau. Thus, he became the BlizzCon champion.
On the first day of BlizzCon 2011, it was announced that Mvp and his team mate NesTea would be going to MLG Providence as part of their new partnership with Quantic Gaming.[11] During the Global Invitational event, Mvp lost 1-2 to NaNiWa. In the main tournament at MLG Providence, Mvp went undefeated through the Open Bracket, placing him in a favorable spot in the Championship Bracket. He was able to beat Rain 2-0 and Bomber 2-0 before falling 1-2 to MC. After playing his way through the loser's bracket and eliminating MarineKing 2-0, HerO 2-0, and HayprO 2-1, he played a rematch against MC in an extended series. Mvp took three consecutive games to win 4-2 in the extended set. He finally lost to Leenock 0-2 for a fourth place finish. Overall, his record at MLG Providence was 26-5.
