IGN ProLeague Season 5, also known as IPL 5, is the fifth season of the IGN ProLeague.

Overview

IPL5 takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Cosmopolitan from November 29 through December 2, 2012. In cooperation with GOMTV, IPL5 will also host the 2012 Global StarCraft II League Season 5 Code S semifinals and finals, as well as the 2012 GSL World Championship.

Several qualifiers for this event were held, beginning in May 2012, in order to determine the 39 players who would join the IPL 4 winner, aLive, at the main event. The qualifiers were held on weekends, which led to some players missing the opportunity to qualify for IPL 5 due to conflicting tournament schedules. To account for this, IPL announced that two extra rounds of midweek qualifiers would be held, from which a further 16 players were to earn places at the main event, bringing the total number of qualified players for this event to 72.

Qualifiers

New to this season, IPL held satellite tournaments that earned players spots at the live event in addition to regional qualifiers that earned players a spot at the live event as well as a free trip to the event.

Regionals European Regional - 1 player North American Regional - 1 player Korean Regional - 1 player Amateur Championship - 1 player An amateur is defined as any player who has not earned more than $1,000 in live events. Amateurs may also choose to play in their appropriate Regional if they so choose. International Qualifier - 2 players Chinese Regional - 1 player Additional IPL Team Arena Challenge 3 - 4 players The top 4 teams from TAC 3 (Incredible Miracle, Team Liquid, SlayerS, and StarTale) will each choose one player subject to IPL's approval to enter the event GSL World Championship - 7 players

⁽²⁾GanZi replaces qxc, who attends WCG. MajOr replaces Suppy. Leenock replaces Axslav. LeiYa replaces ParanOid, who attends WCG. Drewbie replaces DBS. Apocalypse replaces HappyZerg. Sasquatch replaces MaNa.

⁽³⁾ HayprO and SeleCT have retired from Starcraft II, and are replaced by HwangSin and MaSsan respectively. Nerchio, HyuN, and Ryung have qualified twice from different formats; their satellite qualifier spots are replaced by Eifer, TubbyTheFat, and theognis respectively. Squirtle replaces Mvp, who could not attend due to wrist injury. San replaces MarineKing, who decided to compete in WCG instead.

⁽⁴⁾JonnyREcco replacement not found, he will be replaced in the bracket by a BYE.

⁽⁶⁾Ret had replaced Ziktomini; however, Ret received a suspension from IPL5 following events at DreamHack Winter 2012, and is not participating.
