About[edit]
The first of the Intel Extreme Masters Season V Championships, the American Championships held in New York will pit the best of the Americas players against each other for a chance for massive prize rewards and a spot in the Global Championships. It is unknown how many spots there will be at the event, but it seems that it will consist exclusively of the 8 who qualified through the IEM Season V US - Regular Season Cup.
The format will run as two groups of four. The top two from each group will go through into a standard single-elimination bracket for the Semifinals and Finals.
Prize pool[edit]
ESL stated that of the $59,600 total available at the American Championships, $12,400 would be available for StarCraft II.[1] On top of this, the top 2 players qualified for the IEM Season V global finals.[2] The top four prize money was distributed as follows:[3]

Matches 0 2 0 2 0 2 2 1 2 0 2 0 Group Summary The story of Day 1 was Fenix's domination of his group, not dropping a single game or even looking in much danger of doing so. qxc came through second after defeating KiWiKaKi in a great series and calmly moving Silver aside to set up his game with HuK.
