History

Richard Eifer Gayler is an American Grandmaster Protoss who is currently retired.

Biography[edit]

Eifer played SC:BW for its lifespan until transitioning to SC:WoL a year following its release. After rising from Bronze to top Masters in his first year, in late 2012 he demonstrated great improvements in his overall gameplay and reached top Grandmaster, peaking at rank 5 on the North American server. He is currently studying political science at Yale.

In Beta[edit]

Eifer did not participate in the Beta.

Wings of Liberty[edit]

Eifer is best known for his unique approach to the PvZ matchup, opting usually for 1 Gate expansions, instead of the more popular FFE style. He claims, that when deciding which race to play, that Protoss's ability to instantly warp in units anywhere on the map was the game mechanic which helped him make his decision. Eifer's most notable performance to date was at MLG Summer Championship 2012 where he made it to Championship Sunday, defeating compLexity's Ganzi in close 2 - 1 series.

His other major innovation was towards the end of Wings of Liberty, developing a 4gate-proof 3gate pressure fast expand for PvP with a 5:07 nexus and 1 zealot, 5 stalker pressure by 5:50.

Trivia[edit]

  • Eifer's handle was inspired by the German word eifersüchtig which means jealousy in German. He chose it because originally he was jealous of the professionals that would stream and it served as a reminder to assimilate other players' techniques and strategies.
