Evil Geniuses Master's Cup Series

From Liquipedia StarCraft 2 Wiki

The Evil Geniuses Master's Cup Series (EG MCS) are a series of sponsored events run by the team Evil Geniuses. The first and second events were for Quake Live and Counter Strike 1.6, respectively.[1][2] For the next 6 seasons, StarCraft 2 was supported, with the first two setup in a 1v1 bracket style.[3][4] In season five, the format switched to a round-robin team league that had its games casted primarily by djWHEAT, on OneMoreGame TV weekly instead of just the finals.[5] This format continued into Season VIII.[6]

Tournament Format[edit]

Season III & IV[edit]

Season III was a 500-player single-elimination tournament with a $1,750 prize pool. The rounds preceding 16, were best-of-3 and the final 16 and past were best-of-5s. The winner would receive $1,000 as well as the chance to win a MSI GT660 Notebook in a best-of-5 showmatch against IdrA.[3] Season IV continued this format, but bumped its player limit to 512.[4]

Season V & VI[edit]

Season V was a 8 week round-robin team league with the top four teams in weekly standings proceeding to the finals weekend and a $10,000 prize pool. Matches versus teams would consist of 3 1v1 best-of-3s, followed by a 2v2 best-of-1, and an ace match (1v1), where any player could be selected/reselected, best-of-3. The 1st place prize was $5,000.[5] Season VI continued this format, but made the 2v2 a best-of-3, because of fan support.[6]

Coverage[edit]

Coverage is currently provided by Marcus "djWHEAT" Graham on OneMoreGame TV. Throughout the week (Monday - Thursday), games are casted with Inside the Game co-hosts Greg "IdrA" Fields, Geoff "iNcontroL" Robinson, and Taylor "PainUser" Parsons. During seasons III and IV, only the finals were casted by djWHEAT & Day(9).
