The 2016 DreamHack Open is a series of five StarCraft II tournaments organized by DreamHack.
The Tours and Montreal events were also part of the 2016 WCS Circuit respectively of the Spring and Summer events.
The total prizepool is $450,000.

The DreamHack Open 2016 series was announced on December 21, 2015.[1]

Format[edit]

Standard events[edit]

The format of each "standard" event was 2 Group Stages and a 32 players single-elimination bracket Playoffs.

First Group Stage:

  • 64 players in 16 groups of 4 players each, played in a dual tournament format.
  • Matches are Bo3.
  • Top 2 players of each group advance to the next stage.

Second Group Stage:

  • 64 players in 16 groups of 4 players each, played in a dual tournament format.
    • 32 players from the First Group Stage.
    • 24 players pre-seeded.
    • 8 players from Qualifiers.
  • Matches are Bo3.
  • Top 2 players of each group advance to the playoffs.

Playoffs:

  • 32 players in a single-elimination bracket.
  • Round 32 and Round of 16 are played in Bo3.
  • Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals are played in Bo5.

WCS Circuit events[edit]

The format of each "WCS-related" event was a 32 players single-elimination bracket.
Playoffs:

  • 32 players in a single-elimination bracket.
  • All matches are played in Bo5.
