GARIMTO
Kim "GARIMTO" Dong Soo is a retired StarCraft progamer from South Korea who played Protoss for KTF MagicNs.
He was inducted into the Korean esports Hall of Fame in 2012.
Biography[edit]
First bursting into the progaming scene when it was in its infancy, he impressed many with his Protoss vs. Zerg play, as well as his many uses of hidden buildings. Playing for Hanbit Stars, winning two OGN Starleagues and being known as the Protoss who had revolutionised modern Protoss, he eventually retired, settling onto a life of commentating with OGN for Proleagues and game designing with an unrelated company. His last hurrah was during the Panasonic OSL, where, even though he was semi-retired, was able to put on an excellent last stand, especially against the Emperor, SlayerS_`BoxeR`.
GARIMTO won two major OnGameNet Starleagues the first being the Freechal OSL (defeating SKELTON, 3-0) and by defeating Boxer in the SKY 2001 OSL, 3-2. Outside of the OGN leagues, he would rarely appear in Teamleagues for Hanbit or KPGA Tournaments. GARIMTO departed from the Hanbit Stars to complete his military service after the 2002-2003 Panasonic OSL.[1]
After his military service, he decided to return to progaming. He quit his job as a commentator, and signed a lucrative contract with KTF MagicNs. [2] He was listed on the roster as a player, but most viewed him as more of a mentor and coach. He played once, losing to Free during the 2007 Shinhan Proleague R2 before once again retiring.
GARIMTO is as a vocal member of the StarCraft community with many famous sayings. For example, GARIMTO coined the phrase "Sense of Star," which is used to explain moments where players make seemingly clairvoyant or completely boneheaded plays due to the presence or absence of this "Sense."
GARIMTO was also very active in the early online StarCraft forums, GemQ. During this era GARIMTO was a part of a vocal faction which included Autumn and H.O.T-Forever. When GARIMTO lost a match to Boxer's hidden double Barracks strategy, Autumn criticized Boxer for cheesing. This resulted in a series of heated arguments between Boxer's fans and Autumn's faction.
Facts[edit]
GARIMTO was the first Protoss to win 2 OSLs until JangBi repeated the feat many years later.
