Overview[edit]

The ESL Major Series Season V was hosted during late 2009 and early 2010 by ESL TV. It had a prize pool of €750. The event was split into two phases: A group stage and a double-elimination tournament. Two players were seeded directly into the groupstage, these two players were last years finalists IdrA and Ret, the rest of the players had to qualify via 6 online tournaments. Each group winner automatically advanced into the second stage, while the players placed second and third had to undergo relegation matches.

Most games were streamed each Monday. The casters were Uli "FlyingDJ" Schulze and Christian "Stoned" Wopen in German and broad-casted with the help of the Octoshape Plug-In. However, the streaming service often caused problems for the audience, especially non-German viewers had problems to follow the streams.
