Five Gods

From Liquipedia Smash Wiki

The Five Gods refers to the five players of the modern competitive era who are the highest ranking and most skilled players on the planet. The order is never set in stone, as each player is capable of beating any of the other Five Gods, causing fluctuations in tournament results that make it hard to determine an overall rankings list. Although there are several players that have the ability to break into "God" status, (e.g. Plup, SFAT, Westballz, Axe), the Five Gods have held their place in the elite list for their incredible skill and consistency that is only rivaled by other members of the Five Gods.

Many debates have arisen about what it means to achieve "God Status", and whether or not the position of a "God" can be revoked. Some say particular players have already broken into god status, while other say the status of "The Five Gods" is not a rankings list, but a reflection on an era of Melee where they dominated major tournaments.

At Apex 2015, Leffen became the first-ever player to defeat all five of the Gods in tournament with his victory over Mew2King. He had previously defeated Hungrybox at Apex 2014, Armada at B.E.A.S.T 4, PPMD at 2014 MLG Anaheim, and Mango at B.E.A.S.T 5. Although he is not officially considered to be a member of "The Five Gods", he is widely considered to be on the same skill level as them.
