osu! drama and the end of AntiBeat[edit]

In April 2015, AntiBeat announced the organization of a new osu! tournament, All-Stars, which included a prize pool for the winning team.[6] In order to organize this tournament, the team started a fundraising campaign on PayPal. All money raised through this campaign was to be distributed as the cash prize for the tournament, and the $500 goal was reached. [6] [7] There was some controversy raised about the fact that AntiBeat was a very clear favourite for the tournament, and that they would very probably win their own cash prize.[8] The winning team on October 3rd, 2015, was the challenger team SPD, with AntiBeat a close second. [6] Rumors said that expecting an AntiBeat win, the AntiBeat manager, Ryosuke, spent the money before the tournament and could not pay up the prize pool.[9] On July 29, 2016, one osu! player noticed that the cash prize had still not been given to SPD, 300 days after the tournament. [10] A parody Twitter account was created to follow up on the unpaid cash prize. [11] On July 30th, Ryosuke made a public response, which he has since then deleted but which included "I had plenty of occasions to pay up in all honesty. I have just never done it. Why? I'm a lazy bun, the only times I ever get rid of my lazyness is when I'm hosting a tournament because I just have to. Can I pay up? Welp yes. But I'd rather get banned though." [12] On August 16th, 2016, Ryosuke announced that he would not pay the cash prize and that AntiBeat had shut down because of financial issues.[1]
