Justin Wong (commonly abbreviated to "JWong") (born November 15, 1985) is an American Fighting Games player.

He is an eight-time EVO champion, having won Marvel vs. Capcom 2 in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, Street Fighter III: Third Strike 2v2 Teams in 2009 and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 in 2014. He also won MVC2 at the 2001 edition of EVO's predecessor, Battle by the Bay.

Although briefly, Justin Wong has also competed in other fighting game franchises such as Mortal Kombat, Pokken, Killer Instinct, King of Fighters, Tekken, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Skullgirls and SoulCalibur. Due to his early dominance of the American fighting game scene and eventual longevity in the genre, he is largely considered to be one of the greatest fighting game players of all time.

Justin Wong is known for his footsies-oriented, defensive style. In 2010, Justin was picked up by Evil Geniuses and became the first american fighting games player to be sponsored by an esports organization. After this, Justin signed to Echo Fox as part of a "super-team" of players including himself, Tokido, Momochi, Chocoblanka, SonicFox and Scar and stayed with the team until early 2019.

Trivia[edit]

  • Justin is by far the best Marvel vs. Capcom 2 player of all time; his dominance got to a point where his own friends would occasionally cheer for his opponents.
  • Well-known for his ability to comeback against seemingly impossible odds during fighting game matches, appropriately named "The Wong Factor".
  • He had a lonely childhood; Justin started playing fighting games to make friends.[1]
  • The number 15 on his Evil Geniuses jersey signified Justin Wong's age when he won his first EVO Championship (not to be confused with Battle by the Bay).[2]
  • Was on the receiving end of the famous "Daigo Parry".[3]
  • Set a "world record" at E3 2009 by achieving a 300 game win streak.[4]
  • Enjoys watching smash games, and occasionally attends tournaments dedicated to smash.
  • Used to work for nVidia.
  • Often sponsors players from different regions to participate in large tournaments, under the "JWong" (previously WongNation) tag.
  • Is one of a handful of players to have an EVO Top-8 Finish in both Street Fighter game and a main franchise Tekken game, the others being Ryan Hart, Poongko, JimmyJTran and Tokido.
