Midas Mode is a new game mode developed by Moonduck. The concept was first announced in February 2017 and the first iteration of the tournament will be held in November 2017. 8 teams from North America and Europe will participate.[1]

Format[edit]

  • Four North American and four European teams are split into two separate divisions[2]
  • Each division plays a Bo3 round-robin in group stage:
    • Last placed team will be eliminated
    • Top seed qualifies directly for the Grand Finals
    • The remaining two teams play an extra Bo3 series for the final spot in the Grand Finals
  • Tie-breaker rules:
    1. Number of games won
    2. Head-to-head
    3. Most Moonbucks

Rules[edit]

Basic rules:[2]

  • Each team starts the tournament with 7500 Moonbucks or M
  • Things that cost M
    • Drafting a hero
      • Their price is based on factors such as popularity and win rate
      • The better the hero, the more expensive it is
      • The cost of the heroes can change match by match: the cost of unpicked heroes drops, while the picked heroes' value rises
    • Banning a hero (will be cheaper by comparison)
    • Pausing the game
    • Choosing side - Blind Auction
  • Things that give M
    • Randoming
    • Passing on Bans
      • The payout for passing on bans rises exponentially
    • Completing bounties
      • Every week the community will suggest challenges that they must complete for extra M
    • Betting on the matches in the other bracket, with a maximum cap of how much can be bet
  • Running out of Moonbucks has a number of penalties:
    • Teams can only pick the worst heroes (according to the above criteria)
    • Cannot ban heroes, choose sides, or pause the match
